History

Newtown Township is a township in Bucks County, PA. Newtown Township traces its roots back to William Penn, who purchased 5,000 acres from the Lenni Lenape Indians in 1683. He named this land “my New Township”, which gradually evolved to Newtown Township. Newtown served as the County Seat of Bucks County from 1726 until 1813, when the Court was moved to Doylestown. In 1838, the area comprising the commercial center, plus a number of homes, was incorporated into Newtown Borough. Today, the Township surrounds Newtown Borough and each has its own form of government.

Clark Nature Center

Clark Nature Center is a nature trail park within the Newtown Township, PA just off Durham road (Route 413). Established in 1997, on land originally bought from the Leni Lenape Indians in 1683 by William Penn. The park covers an area of approximately 50.6 acres, with a mixture of dirt and wood chipped nature trails. Two seasonal creeks run through the park. Park benches have been sited at various view points along the trail. Local wildlife includes wild turkey, deer, and occasionally foxes can be seen.

The Newtown Creek, situated to the west, across Swamp road, is a tributary of the Neshaminy Creek, running North to South it is the western boundary between the borough of Newtown and the township of Newtown.
